Performing Arts Series – Watershed Project – Lecture Series
Bede’s folk participate in a wide variety of social ministries throughout the Bay Area and the world. Listed below are the ministries in which our parishioners are currently active.. Music
- Arts at St. Bede’s Performing Arts Series
- Choral evensong with St. Paul’s, Burlingame
- Choral evensongs with Christ Church, Portola Valley and Christ Church, Los Altos
Education
- Trinity School, serving 3 year-olds through 5th graders, a collaborative corporation partnership with Holy Trinity, Menlo Park
- Seekers Dinners: monthly young adult theology conversations
- Eco-Camp: week-long summer camp with theology of ecology themes
- Breaking Bread at Bede’s Dinner and Lecture Series
- Los Ayudantes Tutoring & Mentoring: Redwood City Public Schools tutoring program, founded by Bede’s folk, with ongoing support from St. Bede’s, Christ Church, Portola Valley, Holy Trinity, Menlo Park, as well as Episcopal Charities; Bede’s folk serve as volunteer tutors and board members
- Stanford Episcopal-Lutheran Campus Ministry, providing volunteers and funds to board of directors
Worship
- Coordination of joint Anglican/Lutheran Ascension services at Stanford Memorial Church
Chaplaincy
- Stanford Hospital Chaplaincy with local Episcopal congregations, providing volunteers and funds
- Sharon Heights Convalescent ministry (recently closed)
Housing
- San Mateo County Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), with other congregations, providing volunteers, food, funds
- Peninsula Interfaith Action (PIA): ecumenical, interfaith community organizing group working to make local housing affordable; providing volunteers and funding, involvement with local housing commission
Environment
- Bede’s Bog San Fransiquito Creek Watershed Project, working with local entities (Watershed Council, Acterra, Save-the-Bay, Baylands Park Rangers) to restore and clean up the San Francisquito Creek and Palo Alto Baylands
Local Food and Clothing
- Volunteering with Mother Onedia Branch’s clothing and food bank in East Palo Alto
- Participation in Adopt-a-Family with Ecumenical Hunger Program (EHP)
- Peninsula Food Drive for Second Harvest of Santa Clara with local congregations and businesses
Jail Ministry
- San Mateo County Jail Ministry, providing volunteers, gifts, funds
Local Mission Support
- Collaboration with local mission congregation, El Buen Pastor in Redwood Ciy
National
- Summer ‘08 service trip to Rosebud Lakota Sioux Reservation in South Dakota with St. Mary’s, St. James, and St. John’s Presbyterian, all of San Francisco
- Rosebud children’s clothing drive
International
- In cooperation with Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) fundraising for Nets-for-Life malaria nets program in Africa
- Long relationship with Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA) fundraising for orphan care and nursing school scholarships in Malawi
- Fundraising for Central Asia Institute (CAI) Pennies-for-Peace program to fund education in Northern Pakistan and Afghanistan
