Jamie McElroy, MDiv
Coordinator of Children, Youth & Young Adult Ministries
Jamie was born and raised in Washington, DC, where his parents never took him to church but did teach him to believe strongly in the common good. After graduating from Yale University, he worked as a journalist, first as a staff writer for a newspaper and then as a book author. While living in New York City and helping Peyton (his wife) produce plays, he began to take an interest in Christianity. He and Peyton attended services at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, where Jamie was eventually baptized. Peyton then enrolled in a Masters program at the Yale Divinity School to study philosophy of religion while Jamie began the discernment process toward ordination. Now, some years later, Jamie has completed his MDiv at CDSP and expects to be ordained by DioCal in December, 2009, and Peyton is finishing her PhD in Philosophy at Stanford. They are the proud parents of five-year-old son, John, a student at Trinity School, and baby daughter, Alice.
Rani Fischer
Organist
Rani has been playing the organ since she was twelve. She started learning in Richmond, VA, at the behest of her mother and found that she really liked it. After attaining an undergraduate degree in mathematics, Rani attended the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA, to study organ with Peter Sykes. Throughout her musical career she has been playing in churches, mostly Anglican ones. She is very grateful to be in a parish which values liturgy so highly. Apart from St. Bede’s she also teaches remedial math at CSU Monterey Bay twice a week.
